Privacy Policy

UPSC Topper ("we", "our", "us") is a study app for competitive-exam aspirants, available as an Android app and at upsctopper.com (together, the "Service"). This policy explains what we collect, why, who processes it for us, and how you can delete it.

Information you give us

• Account and profile: name, email address, password (stored by Firebase Authentication; we never see it), username, profile photo, bio, target exam, attempt year and optional subject.
• Study data: study sessions and their duration, planner tasks, revision topics, streaks, coins, freezes and challenges.
• Quiz data: quiz attempts, answers, scores and time taken, and quizzes you create.
• Content you post: posts, comments, stories, photos, and answer sheets (photos or PDFs) you upload for evaluation.
• Messages: direct messages, photos and voice notes you send to other users.
• Search: what you type into search, used only to show results.

Information collected automatically

• Device identifiers: a push-notification token for your phone, so we can send the notifications you have enabled.
• Crash and diagnostic data (mobile app): when the app crashes or hits an error, it records the error details, the screen you were on, device model, Android version and app version, linked to your account ID. It does not include your name, email, messages or IP address.
• Website requests: like any website, our host receives your IP address and browser details when you load a page. The website keeps you signed in using your browser's storage; it uses no advertising or tracking cookies.

We do not collect your location, contacts, calendar or browsing history, and we do not use advertising identifiers.

• To run the Service's features: study room, leaderboard, analytics, planner, revision, quizzes, social feed, messages and calls.
• To send notifications you have not turned off. You can control them in Settings.
• To evaluate answer sheets you submit, using AI.
• To find and fix crashes and bugs.
• To understand how features are used, so we can improve them.

We do not sell your data and we do not show ads.

We do not share your data with other companies for their own purposes. These providers process it only to run the Service for us:

Your profile, posts, comments, stories, and study stats that appear on leaderboards are visible to other users. Direct messages are visible only to the people in the conversation. You can block other users at any time.

• Account data, study history, posts and messages are kept while your account is active.
• Stories are removed after 24 hours.
• Notifications in the in-app inbox are deleted after 90 days.
• Crash reports are kept by Sentry for up to 90 days.

• In the app, go to Profile → Delete Account; on the website, Settings → Profile → Delete Account.
• Deleting your account permanently deletes your login and profile, profile and cover photos, study history, streaks and coins, planner tasks and revision topics, posts, comments and stories with their photos, quizzes you created, your quiz attempts, answer sheets you uploaded, and your likes, follows and memberships of study rooms and challenges.
• Your direct-message conversations are deleted with their photos and voice notes, for both people, so the other person no longer sees them either.
• A study room or challenge you created passes to another member. If nobody else is in it, it is deleted.
• We keep reports you made or that were made about you, and our moderation records, to protect other users. We also keep a record that the account was deleted, holding its account ID but not your name or email. Crash reports and notifications that mention you in other users' inboxes expire as described in section 5.
• If you cannot sign in, email us from your account's email address and we will delete the account and its data within 30 days.

• Edit your profile at any time.
• Turn notifications on or off in Settings.
• Email us to get a copy of your data, to correct it, or to have it deleted.

All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS). Access to stored data is restricted by Firebase security rules, so users can only read what they are allowed to see.

UPSC Topper is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, email us and we will delete it.

If we change this policy, we will update the date above. Significant changes will be announced in the app.
